Ignition Licensing: How Pricing Works

Ignition licensing is sold per server, not per tag, client or screen. This guide explains editions, modules, Solution Suites and support plans, and how OperaMetrix sizes and quotes your Ignition license in France.

How the Ignition licensing model works

Ignition licensing follows a simple rule set by Inductive Automation: you license a server, called the Gateway, then add the modules your project needs. On a licensed Gateway, tags, clients, screens, device connections and Designer seats are unlimited.

Standard and Edge licenses are perpetual: you pay once and keep the software version you bought. Cloud Edition is billed on usage through cloud marketplaces. Optional annual support plans add major upgrades and technical support.

  • One license per Gateway server
  • Unlimited tags, clients, screens and device connections
  • Perpetual license with a one-time cost (Standard and Edge)
  • Modules bought individually or bundled in Solution Suites
  • Free trial: the full platform runs in a trial mode you can reset every two hours

Final pricing depends on your architecture. OperaMetrix provides quotes in euros, including licenses, support plan and integration services.

Ignition support and upgrade plans

Annual plans are a percentage of the software retail price at purchase. That price is locked and only changes when you add software to your license.

BasicCare

16% / year

TotalCare

20% / year

PriorityCare

24% / year

Higher tiers add faster response times and extended services. You can move up a tier at any time by paying the difference.

Without an active plan, a major version upgrade costs 65% of the current retail price, and phone, portal and email support end after the 90-day complimentary period.

What drives the cost of an Ignition project

Number of Gateways

One license per server, plus redundancy or separate Gateways for each site when required.

Modules required

Perspective or Vision for visualization, historian, alarm notification, reporting: only what the project uses.

Edge devices

Number of machines or remote sites running Ignition Edge, with volume discounts.

Support plan

Recommended to receive major upgrades such as Ignition 8.3 without paying for a new license.

Integration services

Design, development, deployment and training are usually the main budget line, ahead of licenses.
